About Avila Beach
Avila Beach is a community in San Luis Obispo County, located on San Luis Obispo Bay. A short scenic drive west of Highway 101, Avila Beach is a popular destination for Californians and tourists.

The name Avila commemorates Miguel Ávila, who was granted Rancho San Miguelito in 1842. A town grew in the latter half of the 19th century when it served as a main shipping port. Avila Beach became a destination location when Luigi Marre built a hotel and steamboats brought vacationers from San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Temperatures range from 40° F to low 70° F from November through April and to 60° F to low 80° F May through October. Average annual rainfall is 15 inches with about 70-percent falling from December through March.
