Dental Care on the Go
We may not be able to brush while driving, but we almost always have a few minutes between meals or snacks, or during a trip to the restroom. Stocking up on the right supplies and keeping them in convenient locations is one of the first steps to a bright smile on the go.
Start with dental care kits
Keep floss on your person, in your car or desk drawer. Keep toothbrushes and toothpaste everywhere. Consider buying pre-pasted disposable toothbrushes and floss-picks. You don’t need to be at home to floss. Use the gas station bathroom mirror or the car’s rearview mirror while waiting for the kids to get out of school.
Water helps to wash food particles and sugars away from your teeth and gums. Drinking water is definitely no substitute to brushing, but it will really help in the long run.
Even if you don’t have the time or ability to brush after every single meal, serious flossing can help protect your teeth.
Water–rinse with it and drink plenty

Chew sugarless gum
Chewing sugarless gum can help remove food particles from around the teeth and freshen breath. Keep a handy supply of American Dental Association (ADA) approved sugarless gum. Sugarless gum that is approved by the ADA can be identified because the package displays the ADA seal.
Things to avoid
If you avoid these things your teeth will definitely thank you:
- Avoid sugary drinks and drinks that are high in acid, like juice, pop, and coffee. And if you do drink them, follow it up with a swish of water and some gum. The sugar and acid will erode your teeth and cause cavities.
- Avoid eating sweets and junk food for pretty much the same reason.
- Definitely don’t wait too long between brushing your teeth. Brush a minimum of twice a day, and brushing after lunch is an added benefit.
