  • Stay away from acidic foods and beverages. Foods that are highly acidic can wear down tooth enamel; this includes soda, coffee, candy, and high-sugar carbs. Instead, try eating dairy products or fibrous fruits and vegetables. These foods boost the production of saliva which helps to fight bacteria and acid that can eat away at tooth enamel. Wait an hour before brushing teeth after consuming acidic food or beverages.
  • Don’t clench the jaw. Jaw clenching and teeth grinding can cause the enamel to wear. Grinding and clenching are often caused by stress. Determining the root cause of stress and dealing with it, may reduce tension and teeth grinding. If stress relief does not work, ask Dr. Patel about a mouth guard.
